Tusculum’s Comerford, Wingate’s Rinoski Named SAC Baseball Players of the Week
Tusculum first baseman Heath Comerford and Wingate starting pitcher TJ Roniski have been selected as the SAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, becoming the final weekly award winners of the 2013 season.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Tusculum first baseman Heath Comerford and Wingate starting pitcher TJ Roniski have been selected as the SAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, becoming the final weekly award winners of the 2013 season.
Comerford hit .556 with a pair of walk-off hits as Tusculum went 3-2 on the week, including a series victory over conference foe Wingate. The junior hit a 10th-inning walk-off double on Tuesday in an 11-10 over Trevecca Nazarene, and then ended the game with a three-run home run on Saturday in the second game of a double header with Wingate.
In all, Comerford had 10 hits on the week, including five -- three doubles, a triple and a homer -- in the Trevecca Nazarene game. He also finished with eight RBI and drew five walks. He had a .652 on-base percentage and a 1.222 slugging percentage.
Comerford closed the regular season with a .343 batting average, seven home runs and 44 RBI.

Rinoski turned in arguably his top performance of a standout freshman season on Friday at Tusculum, throwing a three-hit complete-game shutout in a 5-0 Wingate win. All three hits Rinoski allowed were singles, and 71 of his 116 pitches were strikes. The win was crucial in helping Wingate secure the No. 2 seed for the SAC Baseball Championship.
Rinoski finished the regular season 6-1 with a 1.76 ERA – the third-best in the conference. He held opponents to a .185 batting average.
