Carson-Newman’s Asger Hartvig Named 2025 SAC Men’s Swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Asger Hartvig has been voted the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Men's Swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced.
The SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the conference's championship sports and is voted on by the SAC Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
Hartvig, a senior captain of the Carson-Newman men's swimming team, has excelled both in the classroom and in competition. The SAC Elite 23 Award recipient, he holds a perfect 4.00 GPA, majoring in mathematics, demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence. His success has also been recognized at the national level, earning 2022-23 CSC Second Team Academic All-American honors before being named a 2023-24 CSC First Team Academic All-American. Additionally, he has been named to the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll throughout his career.
In the pool, Hartvig delivered a standout season, capturing first place in the 100-yard Breaststroke at the 2025 SAC Swimming Championships with a time of 53.60, setting a new school record. His success extended to the national stage, where he earned Honorable Mention All-American honors as part of the 400-yard Medley Relay team at the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships. He also helped Carson-Newman set a school record in the 200 Medley Relay, finishing in 1:26.98 to secure Honorable Mention All-American status.
Beyond his academic and athletic achievements, Hartvig has been a leader for Carson-Newman as the men's swimming team captain, setting a strong example for his teammates both in and out of the pool. His combination of leadership, dedication, and excellence makes him a deserving recipient of the SAC Men's Swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
