Tusculum’s Wiederspahn, Wingate’s Winston Earn SAC Tennis Weekly Awards
Tusculum sophomore Paul Wiederspahn and Wingate junior Morgan Winston have been selected as the SAC Tennis Players of the Week after leading their teams to a pair of conference victories, the league office announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Tusculum sophomore Paul Wiederspahn and Wingate junior Morgan Winston have been selected as the SAC Tennis Players of the Week after leading their teams to a pair of conference victories, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Wiederspahn helped the Tusculum men extend their winning streak to seven straight by going a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play against Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne. Against the Lions, Wiederspahn handled Zach High in the No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-1, and teamed with Joseph Elphingstone to defeat MHC's High and Sam Lee in No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
Then against L-R, Wiederspahn rolled at No. 4 singles, beating the Bears' Jordan Lawson 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 3 doubles match, he gain teamed with Elphingstone to defeat Jordan Lawson and Matthew Ledford, 8-3.
On the season, Wiederspahn is 9-2 in singles matches and 7-6 in doubles play.

Winston, meanwhile, led the Wingate women to victories over Mars Hill and Anderson, keeping the Bulldogs unbeaten in conference play. Individually, she went 4-0 playing at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Winston earned straight-set victories over Mars Hill's Marian Pinate and Anderson's Camie Beaulieu-Brune. In doubles action, she teamed with partner Kelli Ferguson to earn wins over MHC's Anna Rickenbaker and Alison Fridley and AU's Hannah Ecleberry and Lindsay Gregory.
The strong week improved Winston's singles record to 12-5 and her overall doubles record to 12-5 as well.
