Wingate's Brooks and Lenoir-Rhyne's Beeler Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Savanna Brooks was selected as the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne's Morgan Beeler was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week eight of the 2023 season, the Conference office announced today.
Brooks, a sophomore from Wingate, N.C., had five hits on the week, including a double and two homers. She drove in nine runs and scored five times for the Bulldogs. Brooks had four RBIs in each game against Barton with a homer in both contests. She added an RBI in Sunday's game one win against Tusculum with a hit and run scored in the finale. Brooks ended the week with a .455 batting average and a 1.091 slugging percentage.
Beeler, a senior pitcher from Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., went 2-0 in the circle this week with two complete games. She threw her third shutout in the last 14 days as the senior allowed three hits and struck out seven in game one versus Coker on Thursday. Beeler struck out 20 in just 13 2/3 innings, leading the SAC in strikeouts with 124, and recorded a 1.02 ERA on the week.
