Anderson Men, Wingate Women Earn Top Seeds for SAC Tennis Championship
The Anderson men and Wingate women have secured the top seeds at the 2013 Food Lion SAC Tennis Championship, which kicks off Thursday in Rock Hill, S.C.
Anderson Claims No. 1 Seed in Men's Bracket
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University (8-5, 8-1) has claimed the top spot in the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Championship, which begins Thursday at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
Anderson shared the league regular season crown with Tusculum (14-4, 8-1) but earned the top spot based on its regular season victory over the Pioneers. Tusculum, winners of 11 straight matches, will be the second seed in this week's championship.
The quarterfinal round on Thursday features fourth-seeded Lincoln Memorial (11-5, 7-2) taking on fifth-seeded Newberry (13-8, 5-4) and No. 3 Wingate (14-10, 7-2) against No. 6 Mars Hill (4-8, 4-5). Wingate wins the tiebreaker over Lincoln Memorial because of its victory in head-to-head competition against the Railsplitters in the regular season.
Anderson and Tusculum have both earned byes and will begin play in the semifinal round on Friday with the championship match scheduled to take place on Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m.

Wingate Headlines Women's Field
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University, the 2013 South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Champions, has earned the top seed in the Food Lion SAC Women's Tennis Tournament Championship.
This year's championship takes place at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C., beginning with the quarterfinal round on Thursday.
The Bulldogs (17-5, 9-0) have won three straight conference regular season titles and look to capture their third consecutive league tournament crown. Wingate has also won 10 straight matches entering this week's championship.
The quarterfinal round on Thursday begins at 1:00 p.m., and pits fourth-seeded Catawba (14-8) against No. 5 Newberry (13-9) and third-seeded Anderson (9-5) taking on Lincoln Memorial (6-9), the sixth seed.
Catawba won a tiebreaker over Newberry for the No. 4 seed by virtue of its 5-4 win over the Wolves on April 3. Both teams finished 5-4 in the conference.
Wingate and No. 2 Tusculum (16-3) earned byes in the first round and will start play in the semifinals on Friday. The league tournament championship takes place on Saturday beginning at Noon.
