The South Atlantic Conference and AstroTurf Present Senior Spotlights Featuring Carson-Newman Baseball, Golf and Tennis
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – In light of the recent events of the COVID-19 pandemic that canceled the remainder of the 2020 South Atlantic Conference spring sports seasons, the SAC along with its corporate partner AstroTurf, will be presenting the SAC AstroTurf Senior Spotlights. These highlights will showcase the spring sports teams at each of our 12 institutions and will give fans a brief overview of the team's shortened season, while highlighting the 2020 senior student-athletes on each team.
We continue our AstroTurf Senior Spotlights with the Carson-Newman University Eagles and the baseball, men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis teams.
BASEBALL
The Eagle baseball team completed their season with a record of 15-10 overall, going 5-4 in SAC play. Led by six seniors, the Eagles opened the year with a seven-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep of future SAC member Limestone and a thrilling 5-4 win over nationally ranked Belmont Abbey. Also highlighting the season with an 11-7 win over nationally ranked No. 1 Tampa.
Seniors Mark Treadway, Michael Wroth and Malik Kyle led the Eagle offense, while Hunter Long and Nick Adkins and Cameron Bloebaum took care of business on the mound. Behind their senior leadership, they helped Eagle head coach Tom Griffin earn his 600th career victory.
Treadway finished the season batting .266 with a home run, three doubles and 18 RBIs. Wroth led the team in RBIs with 22 and a team-leading seven home runs. He finished the year with a .253 batting average, adding a double and 19 runs scored to his stat line. Kyle finished the season batting .276 with a pair of homers, a double and seven RBIs
Long was one of the top arms for the Eagles in 2020, finishing the season with a 3-1 record and two saves in 21 and a third innings. He had a 4.64 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 11 appearances. Bloebaum made six appearances out of the bullpen logging three innings with four punchouts.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Carson-Newman women's tennis team went 6-4 overall and earned a 1-2 SAC record with a 5-2 win over Newberry. The Eagles were led by the senior duo of Alisa Liashova and Klara Vuckovic.
The senior duo played doubles together and finished their season with a three-match winning streak.
In singles play, Liashova went 5-4 overall and earned a 4-1 record at No. 6 singles. Vuckovic also went 5-4 overall, earning a 5-2 record for the Eagles at No. 5 singles.

MEN'S TENNIS
The Eagle men's tennis team went 5-5 on the year, earning a 5-3 record at home. They opened the season with a four-match winning streak, which matched the program's longest winning streak since 2012.
Led by lone senior Gabriel Dabdab, the senior posted a 5-2 record on the year in singles action. He had a four-match winning streak and was perfect in SAC play, going 3-0 at No. 3 singles. He went 4-4 in doubles and earned a 1-2 record in league action at No. 2 doubles.

WOMEN'S GOLF
The Eagle women's golf team had another strong season as they racked up four top-five finishes, including placing third or better in three matches. Led by seniors Rachel Watts, Regan Kinnie, Katie Medley and Allie Fletcher, the Eagles best finish came at the Battle of Hilton Head in late-February. There the Eagles placed second overall with three golfers placing in the top-20.
Carson-Newman was ranked as high as No. 24 in the country during the season and Watts and Kinnie combined for 12 starts throughout their final season of action.
Watts finishes her Eagle career with the second-best scoring average on the team in 2019-20, shooting 76.7 for the year. She placed in the top-20 in four of her seven events this season, including a third-place finish at the Music City Invitational in October. There she shot a career best 69 in the final round of play.
Kinnie, finished the year with a 78.8 scoring average and placed in the top-20 with a twelfth place finish at the Music City Invitational in October.
Medley closed out her career as an Eagle with an 84.6 scoring average in nine rounds of play, while Fletcher finished her senior campaign with an 81.3 scoring average.

MEN'S GOLF
The Eagle men's golf team finished out the 2019-20 season ranked as high as No. 17 nationally and they were ranked No. 5 in the Southeast Region. Led by seniors Tom Forster and Fintan McKenna, the Eagles won the North Georgia Fall Invitational with a 27-under par showing. Forster won the event after shooting 15-under par for the tournament.
In their final season as Eagles, Forster and McKenna combined for a 72.8 scoring average.
Forster led the Eagles with a 71.1 scoring average for the year and finished in the top-20 in five straight events, including three top-five finishes. His win at the North Georgia Fall Invitational marked his career best 543-hole total (201, -15) and also was the second-best 54-hole total in SAC history. After an exceptional collegiate career, Forster has earned a spot on the 2020 Mackenzie Tour with PGA Canada after a fifth-place finish (-1) at a qualifier in March. The lowest amateur in the field, he holds exemption in the first six events of the season that starts in May.
MeKenna started all seven events for the Eagles this season, posting a 74.2 scoring average with a pair of top-20 finishes. His best showing the year was a tenth place finish at the North Georgia Fall Invitational, where he shot five-under par.
