WePlayed Sports Players of the Week - Mar. 9
Men's Lacrosse
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played during week five of the 2026 season. It was a clean sweep for Newberry who posted ranked wins over No. 16 Catawba and No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne. Bradley David was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Ryan Morrison was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Houston Horton was named the Specialist of the Week.
David erupted for 12 points in the two Wolves wins, scoring once and adding three assists against Catawba to go with a pair of ground balls in a 15-11 win. Against the Bears, David had five goals and three assists for eight points in a 16-15 win, the highest ranked win in program history for Newberry. He scored five goals on five shots and added a ground ball and caused turnover.
Morrison anchored the defense in the victories, totaling 11 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. In the win at No. 16 Catawba, he recorded six ground balls and four caused turnovers, helping disrupt the Indians' offense and create key transition opportunities. He followed that performance with five ground balls and six caused turnovers in the victory over No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne.
Horton, played a crucial role at the faceoff X in the two wins, winning 13-of-16 face offs against Catawba and grabbing six ground balls while backing that up with nine ground balls and 16 more face off wins against the Bears. For the week, he won 63 percent of his face offs and grabbed 15 ground balls.

Women's Lacrosse
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played during week five of the 2026 season. Wingate swept the award as Stacy Glover was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Sophie Pavlick was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Glover, a freshman from Oviedo, Fla., had a massive week, including a record-breaking performance in Saturday's SAC opener, leading #13 Wingate to a pair of big wins. Glover had 14 goals on the week, starting with her 4-goal effort in the 20-9 win over #18 Seton Hill. Glover poured in a program-record 10 goals in Saturday's win at Tusculum, joining Paige Murphy of Maryville as the only player in D2 to score 10 goals in a game this year.
Pavlick, a sophomore from Duncan, S.C., had an incredible week at the draw control for #13 Wingate, leading the 'Dogs to a pair of wins. The sophomore had six draw controls in the 20-9 win over #18 Seton Hill. She then piled up a school-record 21 draw controls in the Tusculum victory - the 21 draw controls are the most by any player in D2 this year, five more than the next-closest player.

Tennis
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba's Rin Igarashi has been named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Women's Tennis Player of the Week and her teammate Luca Bergonzi has been named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played during week five of the 2026 season, the Conference announced today.
Igarashi, a senior from Gifu, Japan, led Catawba to two SAC wins to start their league season, winning each of the three matches she played. She started the week with a 6-1 win in second doubles over Carson-Newman and added a 6-2, 6-1 win in singles. She would add a sweep of Emory & Henry 6-0 in second doubles.
Bergonzi, a sophomore from Pavia, Italy, went 4-0 on the week, leading Catawba to a 3-0 record, including a win over No. 22 Lander 5-2. In that win, he earned a 6-2 win in first doubles and then claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win in fourth singles. He would add two more wins in doubles against SAC foes Carson-Newman and Emory & Henry and his singles went unfinished due to Catawba clinching victories.

Baseball
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Tusculum's Landon Dockery was named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Baseball Player of the Week, while Wingate's Kolt Nelson was named Pitcher of the Week for games played during week six of the 2026 season, the conference office announced today.
Dockery, a sophomore outfielder from Maryville, Tenn., batted .526 with six RBI and went a perfect 5-of-5 in stolen bases to lead Tusculum to a perfect 4-0 record. Dockery went 10-of-19 with four runs scored and notched an on-base percentage of .571. He opened the week going 2-for-5 in Tusculum's 11-8 win over King. He followed by going 8-for-14 in a series sweep at Emory & Henry.
Nelkson, a freshman from Waynesville, N.C., went 6 2/3 innings at Lander, leading the Bulldogs to a 5-3 region win over the Bearcats. Nelson struck out six and walked just one, allowing only two hits against the Bearcats as the Bulldogs pushed their winning streak to 12.

Softball
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Emory & Henry's Hannah Booth was named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Softball Player of the Week, while Tusculum's Chelsey Stonesifer was named Pitcher of the Week for games played during week four of the 2026 season, the conference office announced today.
Booth, a sophomore from Longwood, Fla., went 11-for-15 over the weekend as the Wasps went 4-0. She posted three home runs and 11 runs batted in with seven runs scored in four contests. She recorded a.733 batting average, ,750 on base percentage and 1.467 slugging percentage. She added a pair of doubles.
Stonesifer, a junior from Littlestown, Pa., went 2-0 with a save for the Pioneers. In 16 innings in the circle, she allowed just one run. The righty struck out 14 batters to just four walks and posted a 0.44 earned run average. In a doubleheader against Lock Haven, he went 8 shutout innings and allowed just four hits and one walk to earn a 1-0 win. She would come in and earn the save in game two. Against Bluefield St., she struck out seven in seven innings and allowed one run.

Beach Volleyball
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Addie Smith and Camryn Ehlers were named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week for matches played during week four of the 2026 season, the conference office announced today.
Smith and Ehlers put together a dominant performance during Carson-Newman's undefeated conference weekend, going a perfect 4-0 in the No. 3 flight while helping the Eagles secure four team victories. The duo consistently controlled their matches, winning all four in straight sets and allowing double-digit points in only two sets the entire weekend. Smith and Ehlers highlighted their performance with a commanding 21-6, 21-8 victory over Emmanuel and a 21-7, 21-11 win against Erskine, playing a key role in Carson-Newman's 11-0 start to the season.
