Calkin Named Pre-Season All-American by Collegiate Baseball
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman senior pitcher/infielder Derrick Calkin (Maryville, Tenn.) has been named to the pre-season All-American team by Collegiate Baseball, athletic department officials announced today.
Calkin was 6-5 with a 2.61 earned run average in 2005. He started 11 games for the Eagles and had 49 strikeouts in 72.1 innings of work. At the plate, Calkin batted .357 with seven doubles, four homeruns and 34 RBIs. He was also six-of-nine in stolen bases. Calkin was voted to the All-South Atlantic Conference team in 2005.
