Catawba’s Lyerly, Mullins Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba's Craige Lyerly and Trevor Mullins have been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week announced conference officials Tuesday.
Catawba went 3-1 during the week, including a SAC doubleheader sweep of No. 12 Carson-Newman College last Saturday.
Lyerly, a 6-0, 175-pound junior third baseman from Salisbury, N.C., batted .625 last week (10-of-16) with three doubles and five RBI. After going 0-for-3 against Pfeiffer, Lyerly rebound with a 5-for-5 including three doubles and three RBI in a mid-week win at Belmont Abbey. He tallied three hits in a first game win over Carson-Newman and followed with a 2-for-3 effort in the night-cap victory. On the week, he also posted four stolen bases, including three against Pfeiffer.

Mullins, a 6-3, 215-pound junior from Jamestown, N.C., hurled a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Carson-Newman. He tossed seven innings where he walked just one and struck out seven in garnering his first victory of 2009.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
