Tusculum’s Houser, Currie Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Tusculum's Payden Houser and Rob Currie have been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week announced conference officials Monday.
Houser, a sophomore second baseman, batted .667 on the week to lead Tusculum to a 4-1 record, including a three-game sweep over Wingate. The Lincolnton, N.C. native went 8-for-12 at the plate, including 5-for-7 (.714) against the Bulldogs. In the second game of the Wingate series, Tusculum rallied from a 5-0 deficit to win 7-5.

Houser drove in the winning runs with his two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning, for his first collegiate round-tripper. He went 2-for-3 in the game with three RBI. Houser also went 2-for-2 in the series opener against the Bulldogs with a double. He also acounted for a pair of hits in Tusculum's 6-2 win at Limestone. On the week, Houser scored three runs, drew a pair of walks, was hit twice and stole three bases.
Currie, a senior relief pitcher from St. Charles, Ill., went 1-0 in his two appearances. He pitched the final 2 2/3 innings in Tusculum's 5-2 win over Wingate. Currie picked up the victory as he scattered two hits and struck out four in the win, including the side in the ninth inning. The 2008 SAC All-Tournament member also pitched two shut out innings in Tusculum's 6-2 win at Limestone. In that game, Currie surrendered a hit with three strikeouts. On the week, Currie posted a 0.00 ERA with no walks and seven strikeouts. On the week, he pitched 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and a 0.00 earned run average.
