Mars Hill’s Brian Williams, Newberry’s Thomas Berryhill Named Baseball Players Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Mars Hill outfielder Brian Williams and Newberry pitcher Thomas Berryhill were named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Position Player and Pitcher of the Week announced league officials Monday.

Williams, a 5-10, 195-pound senior from Orlando, Fla., earns this honor for a second time this season. The Palm Beach Atlantic transfer hit .481 in six games last week with four home runs, 13 RBI, a double and scored eight runs as the Lions went 4-2. Included in that was a 4-1 league record, including a three-game sweep at No. 21 Lenoir-Rhyne. He had a .963 slugging percentage during the week and posted a .533 average against Lenoir-Rhyne, going 8-for-15 with two home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored.

Thomas Berryhill

Berryhill, a 5-10, 195-pound right-hander from Aynor, S.C., posted a 1-0 record in his two mound appearances. During the week he recorded a 1.46 ERA and nine strikeouts in 12.1 innings of work. He made a long relief appearance against Catawba as he pitched six shutout innings, scattering three hits, walked none and struck out five. In Newberry's 11-3 win at Wingate, he pitched 6.1 innings and struck out fur in recording his first victory of the season.
