Tusculum Captures SAC Baseball Championship
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Eric Conley's walk-off, pinch-hit single in the bottom of the ninth drove in the winning run in the opener to lead Tusculum College to a split a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader over Lenoir-Rhyne University. The 12th-ranked Pioneers capture the 2009 SAC Championship, claiming the program's fourth title in the last five years.
The Pioneers won the opener 6-5, while the Bears got a complete-game pitching effort from Greg Conrad as L-R won the night-cap, 3-1.
Tusculum (33-14, 18-4 SAC) also captures the top seed in next week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament in Wingate, N.C. Lenoir-Rhyne (24-19, 10-11 SAC) clinches a spot in next week's six-team, double-elimination tournament, which will begin on Thursday.
