Tusculum’s Cotten, Carson-Newman’s McIntyre Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Tusculum College's Sean Cotten has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Carson-Newman College's Wes McIntyre earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 28, announced conference officials Monday.
Cotten, a junior catcher from Mooresville, N.C. (Lake Norman HS), went 9-for-16 (.562), including four home runs and 14 RBI to lead the Pioneers to a perfect 4-0 record. Tusculum posted a win over Southeast Region opponent Limestone, followed by a three-game sweep at Lincoln Memorial. Cotten opened the week with a 2-for-4 effort in Tusculum's 9-6 win over Limestone. In Tusculum's 23-15 win over LMU in the series opener, Cotten went 3-for-5 with two homers and seven RBI. The RBI tally is tied for the second most in Tusculum single-game history. In the second game of the series, he accounted for a home run and followed with a perfect 3-for-3 effort, including three RBI and his fourth round-tripper of the week in TC's 17-10 win over the Railsplitters. He scored six runs and posted a 1.313 slugging percentage. He was also perfect in his 29 fielding chances.
McIntrye, a senior right-hander from Chattanooga, Tenn. (Soddy Daisy HS), fired a seven-inning no-hitter at Brevard College in a 6-0 C-N win on Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles completed a three-game sweep of the Tornados in Brevard, N.C. He struck out a season-high 12 batters in the win. McIntrye also pitched three shutout innings on Thursday as the Eagles beat Limestone, 9-1. He took a 1-0 lead into the seventh, before C-N blew the game open with an eight-run inning. In all, the Eagles turned in a 5-0 week, and have won 10-straight games.
