Wingate’s McPherson, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Padgett Named Baseball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Wingate University's Dodson McPherson has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Lenoir-Rhyne University's Brandon Padgett earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 27, announced conference officials Monday.
McPherson, a junior outfielder from Graham, NC (Graham HS), hit the game-winning three-run homer in the seventh inning of Sunday's 7-5 seven inning victory over Lincoln Memorial University, blasting the go-ahead homer with two outs and the team trailing by one. McPherson racked up 14 hits in 24 at bats on the week, hitting .583 with three homers, a double, a triple, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. He went four-for-six in each game against West Virginia State, driving in nine runs and scoring seven times. McPherson went five-for-eight in the first two games against LMU, scoring twice.
Padgett, a senior right-hander from Statesville, NC (UNC Wilmington) pitched 10 scoreless innings last week to help Lenoir-Rhyne go 3-2. Padgett threw two shutout innings in a 14-8 win over fifth-ranked Georgia College at home Tuesday. Padgett also held Anderson without a run over eight innings pitched in a 6-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Bears Field and was credited with the win in the process. Padgett scattered six hits and struck out eight batters for the week as well. Padgett is currently 2-2 with 33 strikeouts on the year.
