Seven SAC Baseball Players Named to ABCA/Rawlings Preseason All-Southeast Region Team
TUCSON, Ariz. - With college baseball season less than two weeks from getting underway, seven players from the SAC have been identified as preseason All-Southeast Region by the ABCA and Rawlings, it was announced earlier this week.
Leading the way was 2011 SAC regular-season champion and Food Lion SAC Baseball Tournament runner-up Catawba, which has four players on the 2012 preseason All-Region Team.
Pitchers J.J. Jankowski and Nick Lomascolo - both first team All-SAC honorees in 2011 - were named to the team, as were third baseman Chris Dula and designated hitter Garrett Furr.
Both Dula and Furr were 2011 All-SAC First Team selections as well.
2011 SAC Tournament Champion Wingate had two selections to the preseason ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Team, including last year's SAC Player of the Year Dodson McPherson.
Wingate first baseman Brian Yeung, who earned first team All-Conference honors last season, was recognized on the preseason All-Southeast Region Team as well.
Tusculum outfielder Alexi Colon also earned preseason All-Southeast Region honors. The senior was a first team All-SAC selection in 2011.
In addition to the preseason All-Southeast Region Team, ABCA/Rawlings also released a list of "Players to Watch" and "Newcomers to Watch" for 2012.
The SAC had 10 student-athletes identified as Players to Watch and 10 noted as Newcomers to Watch.
