Brevard’s Queen, Tusculum’s Rakes Earn SAC Baseball Weekly Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. - After the second week of conference play, Brevard's Cody Queen has been selected SAC baseball Player of the Week, while Tusculum's Taylor Rakes has been tabbed the league's Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.

Queen paced the Tornados on the week with a .600 average, nine runs and four RBIs. The freshman was a key contributor as the Tornados captured their first conference sweep in school history. The shortstop's week was highlighted by a four-for-five day, which included two home runs, in the 8-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne.

Rakes has been virtually unhittable as he started two games last week and gave up just two three hits. The junior's highlight of the week came in his start against in-state rival Carson-Newman as he tossed seven innings, giving up two hits and striking out seven. The Norcross, Ga. native has been a key component to the undefeated start by the Pioneers this season.
