Wingate’s Allison, Newberry’s McElwee Earn SAC Baseball Weekly Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate outfielder Casey Allison hit .591 on the week and Newberry pitcher Josh McElwee turned in a dominant 11-strikeout performance to earn the SAC baseball weekly awards, it was announced on Monday.
Allison was named the league's Player of the Week, while McElwee earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.

Behind Allison, Wingate went 5-0 last week, including a three-game sweep over conference-foe Carson-Newman. Allison recorded 13 hits in 22 at-bats, including two doubles and three home runs.
The senior's best game of the week came on Wednesday against Limestone, where he finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, a homerun and two walks.
Allison's week also included nine runs scored. He had at least two hits in each game, and recorded three hits in three of the outings.
McElwee was brilliant on Friday night against Lincoln Memorial, throwing eight shutout innings in a 12-0 Newberry win. His 11 strikeouts boosted his season total to 58 in just 46.2 innings pitched.
Of the six hits McElwee gave up, four didn't leave the infield. In his eight innings of work, no LMU runner advanced past second base.
On the season, McElwee is 3-1 with a 3.47 ERA.
