Tusculum Baseball Ranked Second in Latest NCBWA Poll
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Tusculum baseball team has moved up one spot and is ranked second in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Top 25 Poll announced officials Tuesday.
The Pioneers (43-7) received 311 total points, including five first place votes. Tusculum enters Tuesday's game at Limestone with a seven-game winning streak, including 4-0 at last weekend's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament to capture the program's third SAC Tournament title and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA II Tournament.
St. Mary's (Texas) holds onto the top spot in the poll with 314 points and five first place votes. Tusculum is second, followed by Tampa in third with 301 points and two first place nods. Central Missouri is fourth, followed by Mount Olive, Minnesota State-Mankato, Seton Hill, Grand Valley State, North Alabama and Cal Baptist to comprise the top 10.
Armstrong is 11th, followed by Southern New Hampshire, Delta State, Western Oregon, Angelo State, Colorado Mesa, West Chester, Northern Kentucky, St. Cloud State, Nova Southeastern, Franklin Pierce, Mercyhurst, Francis Marion, Catawba and St. Edwards to wrap up the poll.
Tusculum remains as the top-ranked team in the NCBWA Southeast Region Poll for a fifth consecutive week and seventh time this season. The Pioneers received 108 points, including 10 of 11 first place votes. Mount Olive received the other first place vote, along with its 93 points and is second in this week's region poll. Armstrong is third, followed by Francis Marion, Catawba, USC Aiken, Lander, Georgia College, Belmont Abbey and UNC Pembroke.
