Newberry’s Baur, Catawba’s Lomascolo Picked as SAC Baseball Weekly Honorees
Newberry sophomore Albert Baur and Catawba senior Nick Lomascolo have been selected as the SAC Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Newberry sophomore Albert Baur and Catawba senior Nick Lomascolo have been selected as the SAC Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Baur, playing third base for the first time all season, led Newberry to a 3-2 week by hitting .609 in 23 at bats. He had multi-hit performances in four of his five games last week.
Bauer's week included four doubles, a triple and nine RBI, and he finished with a slugging percentage of .870. His biggest performance came on Wednesday in a 13-9 win at Augusta St., where he went 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple and three RBI.
The Philadelphia, Pa., native also scored three runs and stole a base on the week. He ranks fourth in the SAC with 12 doubles fifth in RBI with 31.

Lomascolo earned SAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time this season after throwing eight shutout innings in Catawba's 8-0 win at Carson-Newman in Friday. He allowed only three hits in the game while striking out 13. The performance made Lomascolo Catawba's all-time leader in strikeouts with 326.
The left hander has allowed just two earned runs in his past 23 innings pitched while striking out 23. He leads the SAC with seven wins and 72 strikeouts, and ranks second in ERA at 1.62.
