Catawba’s Dula Claims Two More All-America Distinctions
Catawba first baseman Chris Dula continued to add to his collection of awards this week, earning first-team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and second-team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.
CARY, N.C. – Catawba first baseman Chris Dula continued to add to his collection of awards this week, earning first-team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and second-team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Dula, who was also selected as an All-American and the Southeast Region Player of the Year by Daktronics, hit .402 with 14 home runs and 54 RBI. Each of those numbers either led or tied for the lead in the conference.
He also led the SAC with a .484 on-base percentage and a .728 slugging percentage, and ranked second in both hits and walks.
Dula led Catawba to a regular-season SAC title and a 36-16 overall record. He was selected as the conference's Player of the Year.
Catawba pitcher Nick Lomascolo was also an honorable mention All-American selection by the NCBWA. The lefty won 10 games with a 2.14 ERA and 123 strikeouts.
California Baptist outfielder Zach Esquerra was selected as the ABCA Player of the Year, while Minnesota St.-Mankato's Harvey Martin was named the ABCA Pitcher of the Year.
On the NCBWA team, Missouri Western St. shortstop Michael Schulze took home Player of the Year honors, and Martin was the Pitcher of the Year.
