Weekly SAC Baseball Awards go to Newberry’s Barbieri, Coker’s Prosser
The SAC baseball weekly awards for games played Feb. 3-9 were released on Tuesday, honoring Newberry's Eric Barbieri as the SAC Player of the Week and Coker's Matt Prosser as the conference Pitcher of the Week.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The SAC baseball weekly awards for games played Feb. 3-9 were released on Tuesday, honoring Newberry's Eric Barbieri as the SAC Player of the Week and Coker's Matt Prosser as the conference Pitcher of the Week.
SAC Baseball Player of the Week | Eric Barbieri, Newberry
Barbieri hit .500 with four extra-base hits last week – including three homers – as Newberry went 3-1 overall.
Barbieri opened his week by going 3-for-5 with a double and a home run on Wednesday in a 12-0 Newberry win over North Greenville. The first basemen then piled up six hits, two homers and seven RBI in a 2-1 SAC series victory against LMU over the weekend.
The senior finished the week with nine RBI and a 1.056 slugging percentage. His 11 RBI on the season lead the SAC, and his three home runs are tied for the league lead.
SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Matt Prosser, Coker
Prosser earns SAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week in a row after earning a complete-game victory in Coker's 3-1 SAC win at Wingate on Saturday.
Prosser allowed just one run on five hits in the outing while striking out five Bulldogs. Of his 106 pitches in the game, 65 went for strikes.
Prosser's 12 strikeouts on the season are fourth-most in the conference, and he is one of only five pitchers in the league to have already recorded two wins.
