Lenoir-Rhyne’s Vieitez, Catawba’s Shepard Named SAC Baseball Players of the Week
The SAC has named Lenoir-Rhyne outfielder Ivan Vieitez and Catawba pitcher Shaefer Shepard its baseball Players of the Week for their performances in games played April 7-13.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The SAC has named Lenoir-Rhyne outfielder Ivan Vieitez and Catawba pitcher Shaefer Shepard its baseball Players of the Week for their performances in games played April 7-13.

Vieitez led Lenoir-Rhyne to an unbeaten week – capped by a SAC series sweep of Mars Hill – by hitting .632 with a 1.158 slugging percentage.
Vieitez opened his week by going a combined 6-of-8 at the plate with two doubles, two walks and five RBI in a pair of non-conference wins over King and Winston Salem St. He then had six more hits – including a triple and a homer - in the weekend series against Mars Hill, highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance in game one on Friday night.
The junior also tallied nine RBI, nine runs and three walks on the week. He currently leads the SAC with a .444 batting average.
SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Shaefer Shepard, Catawba
Shepard threw a total of 10 scoreless innings last week in two outings, allowing just four hits while striking out 11.
Shepard's first appearance came in relief on Wednesday against No. 17 USC Aiken, where he went three innings and allowed just two hits. He then tossed a seven-inning complete-game shutout on Saturday in Catawba's series finale with Tusculum, fanning 10 in a 3-0 Indians win. He retired the final 10 Pioneer hitters in the contest.
Shepard now leads the SAC with a 1.35 ERA.
