NCBWA Announces NCAA Division II Southeast Region Players of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba outfielder Blake Houston was tabbed the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Southeast Region Hitter of the Week, the organization announced today. The award marks the second time this season a SAC student-athlete has earned the honor.
Houston, a senior from Mt. Ulla, N.C., batted .571 with eight hits and nine RBI to lead the Catawba Indians to a 4-0 record last week, including a series sweep over League foe Lenoir-Rhyne. He posted multiple hits in three of the four games he played in and highlighted his week with three hits, four RBI and a triple in the series opener against the Bears on March 7. The outfielder posted three extra-base hits in the four-game span to finish with a slugging percentage of .857. He also chipped in a stolen base on the week. The honor marks his first Southeast Region Player of the Week nod this season.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
