The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, April 21
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Mars Hill's Rayshelon Carolina was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Cole Cromer from Newberry was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 13-19 the League announced today.
Carolina, a junior from Willemstad, Curacao, batted .700 with seven hits and four doubles to lead the Lions to a 3-0 League record last week. He posted a pair of three-hit contests and drove in three runs. Against Lenoir-Rhyne on April 18, Carolina went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in a 9-4 win. He finished the three-game span with a 1.100 slugging percentage and an on-base clip of .750. The award marks his first Player of the Week selection this season.
Cromer, a senior from North Augusta, S.C., was big in what could be his last start at the Smith Road Complex. The senior took the ball in the second game of the senior day double-header and logged his second, complete game shutout of the season. The right-hander went seven complete innings, scattered four hits and struck out eight hitters in the 2-0 victory. Eight strikeouts is the season high for Cromer as he has now won seven starts in a row. The honor marks his first Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
