The South Atlantic Conference Announces Baseball Players of the Week, April 12
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Tusculum's Zack Finchum was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while teammate Christian Raasch was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 4-10, the League announced today.
Finchum, a freshman for Greeneville, Tenn., batted .643 and recorded a double in all four games as Tusculum posted a 3-1 record last week. In Tusculum's 11-10 come-from-behind win over Lee, he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as TC rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 9-5 to extend its home record to 16-3 on the year. Finchum went 3-for-4 in Tusculum's 6-4 win over Newberry as he posted a RBI double and a pair of singles. He followed that with another 3-for-4 effort in TC's 6-0 win against Newberry. The Greeneville, Tenn. product is third on the team with his .351 batting average and has hit safely in his last six games (12-of-23, .522). The honor marks his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Raasch, a junior from Norcross, Ga., pitched eight shutout innings and combined on a 6-0 shutout over South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry. Raasch scattered five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts to improve to 6-2 on the year and lower his ERA to 3.13 on the year. Raasch has combined on two of Tusculum's school-record seven shutouts this year. The award is his first Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
