NCBWA Announces NCAA Division II Southeast Region Players of The Week
PEMBROKE, N.C. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has released its 12th weekly NCAA Division II Southeast Region Players of the Week awards for the week of April 25-May 1, 2016. The Hitter of the Week is Catawba senior Will Albertson.
Alberston, a senior from Sophia, N.C., hit .538 in four starts at the South Atlantic Conference Tournament on the way to tournament co-MVP laurels. Albertson drew four walks and was hit by pitch twice over the stretch as well, and finished his tournament outing with a .684 on-base percentage and a .769 slugging percentage. His offensive outburst also included one home run, five RBI and six runs scored. He tallied two or more hits in three of the four contests, including a 3-for-5, 2-run showing in the tournament-opening win over Wingate. He also walked, homered, drove in four and scored three times on a 2-for-3 hitting line against Lincoln Memorial.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
