Tusculum's Hall Named NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week
Wingate, N.C.----UNC Pembroke senior Elijah Helton (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Tusculum University senior right-hander Charles Hall (Dumfries, Va.) is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.
Helton registered 13 hits in four games last week and did not strike out in 18 at-bats, hitting .722 in four games. He tallied a .750 on-base percentage and a .944 slugging percentage (1.694 OPS). Helton turned in multiple-hit games in all four starts, including a five-for-six performance with three runs scored in the opener at Anderson. He doubled, tripled and scored three times in midweek victory at Barton. He hit .714 in the three-game series at Anderson, stealing a base on a three-for-five outing in series finale.
Hall recorded an NCAA Division II record 22 strikeouts in Tusculum's 10-1 win over Queens last week. He allowed just one run on three hits in nine innings of work in the win. In addition to setting a new DII record, Hall established a new SAC record. He has now struck out 10 or more batters in six consecutive games and leads the nation with 88 strikeouts on the year.
