The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry outfielder Danton Hyman was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while Newberry left-handed pitcher Quinton Driggers was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played March 25 through March 31, the Conference office announced today.

Hyman, a senior from Prosperity, S.C., led the Wolves to an undefeated 4-0 week, including a three-game sweep of SAC foe Wingate. He batted .538 for the week with three doubles, four RBIs, five runs scored and a stolen base. Hyman reached base in all four games, extending his streak of reaching base to 45 games. He is now the NCAA Division II active career leader in hits with 246 and stolen bases with 63.

Driggers, a junior from Pelion, S.C., made appearances in three of Newberry's four games last week, helping the Wolves secure a 4-0 record for the week. He earned a pair of saves against Wingate, throwing five total innings, allowing just three hits and no runs with six strikeouts. For the week, Driggers tossed eight scoreless innings, scattering four hits with 12 strikeouts.  

This is Hyman's first Player of the Week honor this season, while this the second Pitcher of the Week for Driggers.
