Lenoir-Rhyne's Jeffries Named NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week
Wingate, N.C.----Lenoir-Rhyne University senior Clayton Jeffries (Lakeland, Fla.) has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. USC Aiken junior right-hander Mitch Spence (Cary, N.C.) is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.
Jeffries led the Bears to an impressive 4-1 week, including a three-game sweep of SAC foe Mars Hill. He hit .556 for the week with a double, a home run, seven runs scored and 11 RBI. He also had an on-base percentage of .625 and a slugging percentage of .778.
Spence set a career-high with 16 strikeouts in a complete-game win against Augusta. He made two appearances on the week, pitching one inning of relief at Wingate before getting the start in the opener against the Jaguars. In that game he allowed one earned run on three hits and walked one. He set down the side in order four times and only allowed one baserunner after the fifth inning, and that coming on an error.
