The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman outfielder Tyler Thompson was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while Newberry right-handed pitcher Josh Bookbinder was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 15 through April 21, the Conference office announced today. 

Thompson, a sophomore from Gallatin, Tenn., led the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 week. He collected at least one hit in each game, batting .400 with a double, two home runs, five runs scored and seven RBIs. Thompson also had a .400 on-base percentage and a .867 slugging percentage for the week.

Bookbinder, a freshman from Powdersville, S.C., secured the Newberry Wolves' first-ever SAC regular season championship with a complete game shutout performance against Lincoln Memorial last week. He went seven innings, allowing just three hits with no runs and a pair strikeouts in the win over the Railsplitters. The victory gave Bookbinder nine on the year, tying a Newberry single-season record for wins.

This is Thompson's second Player of the Week honor this season, while this the first Pitcher of the Week honor for Bookbinder.
