The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba's Hunter Shepherd was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while Anderson's Lucas Smith was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week four of the 2020 season, the Conference office announced today.

Shepherd, a senior first baseman from Salisbury, N.C., led the Catawba Indians to a perfect 4-0 record including a win over No. 20 Mount Olive and a 3-0 sweep of Tusculum. He batted .389 for the week with a double, three home runs and nine RBIs. He also stole a pair of bases and had a .944 slugging percentage.

Smith, a sophomore right-hander from St. Petersburg, Fla., earned his second consecutive complete-game victory last week with a 6-1 win over Coker to open SAC play. He went nine innings allowing just one run on five hits with six strikeouts.

This is Shepherd's second Player of the Week honor this season, while this also marks the second Pitcher of the Week for Smith.
