Limestone's Forbes Earns NCBWA Region Player of the Week Honors
Wingate, N.C.----Limestone University senior first baseman Brian Forbes has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. University of North Georgia junior right-hander Cade Heil is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.
Forbes led the Saints to a SAC series victory over UVA Wise last weekend with a dominant performance at the plate. He hit .600 in the four-game set, driving in 10 runs with a double, a triple and three home runs. He also scored five runs, had a .588 on-base percentage and a 1.400 slugging percentage.
Heil tossed a complete game two-hitter as the Nighthawks downed Lander 9-1 in game two of the series. He allowed one unearned run and one walk while striking out six to improve to 5-0 on the season. He retired the first 10 batters he faced in order before issuing his lone walk, then set down eight more in order. Three errors and a single in the seventh allowed a run to score, but Heil responded by setting down the side in order in the eighth and working around another single in the ninth to get the win. He threw 114 pitches in the complete-game effort.
