Wingate's McCullough Named NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week

Wingate, N.C.----North Greenville University redshirt junior Marek Chlup has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Wingate University junior right-hander Brody McCullough is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.

Chlup powered the Crusaders' 3-1 week as he hit .625 with a 1.375 slugging percentage and a .684 on-base percentage with 10 runs scored, six RBI, one double, one triple and three home runs. He collected three multi-hit games and fell a single shy of the cycle in a win over Lander as he finished three-for-five with three runs scored, two RBI and a walk. In a series win over UNC Pembroke Chlup went seven-for-11 with seven runs scored and four RBI with two homers and a pair of walks. 

McCullough was overpowering for the #2 Bulldogs last week as he recorded a career-high 17 strikeouts in just 6 1/3 shutout innings on the mound in a 14-2 win over UVA Wise. He allowed two singles during the game with 17 of his 19 outs coming via strikeouts including his first eight and last five. McCullough threw 89 pitches in the game, including 61 for strikes while lowering his ERA to a league-best 0.95.
