Newberry's Marine and Wingate's Farris Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Braylin Marine was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Baseball Player of the Week, while Wingate's Mitch Farris was named Varsity Gems Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week six of the 2023 season, the Conference office announced today.

Marine, a senior infielder from Freeport, N.Y., led the Wolves to a perfect 4-0 week, including a three-game sweep of Mars Hill. He batted .600 for the week with two doubles, 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, and four stolen bases. He had an on-base percentage of .632 and a slugging percentage of .733 for the week.

Farris, a junior left-hander from Palm Harbor, Fla., was lights out on the mound last week in his lone appearance of the week, a 5-1 win over Lincoln Memorial. Farris fanned 18 batters and allowed just one run on three hits in eight innings of work. He fell just one strikeout shy of tying the SAC single-game strikeout record and struck out the side on three occasions during the outing.
