Newberry's Marine Named NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week
Wingate, N.C.---- Newberry College senior shortstop Braylin Marine has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Columbus State University junior right-hander Noah Windhorst is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.
Marine led the Wolves to a perfect 4-0 week, including a three-game sweep of Mars Hill. He hit .600 for the week with two doubles, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and four stolen bases. He had an on-base percentage of .632 and a slugging percentage of .733 for the week.
Windhorst tossed a seven-inning no-hitter as CSU blanked North Georgia in a run-rule shortened 10-0 win. He allowed three walks and struck out six to improve to 5-0 on the season. He retired the first eight batters he faced in order before issuing a walk in the third, then retired the next 11 in a row. It is the third no-hitter thrown in league play this season and the eighth in a conference game in PBC history.
