Anderson's Smith Named NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week
Salisbury, N.C. ---- Anderson right-handed pitcher Ben Smith and Emmanuel catcher Nick Dietsch are the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association's Southeast Region Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Smith, a junior right-hander from Cleveland, Tenn., went the distance for the Trojans picking up a complete game, shutout win against King (13-0). He scattered two hits over seven innings, with no runs and five strikeouts.
Dietsch, a junior from Mission Viejo, California, hit .462 (6-of-13) with 10 RBI and five runs scored in five appearances last week. Dietsch slugged 1.462 in the five games and owned an on-base percentage of .619. Dietsch finished his efforts on the week with five of his six hits going for extra bases on four home runs and one double. Dietsch leads Conference Carolinas with six home runs. He is second in Conference Carolinas in OPS at 1.748.
