Limestone's Barnette and Coker's Blackwell Named South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Limestone's Sion Barnette was named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Baseball Player of the Week, while Coker's Benjamin Blackwell was named WePlayed Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week five of the 2024 season, the Conference office announced today. 

Barnette, a junior infielder from Honea Path, S.C., led the Saints to 5-0 record last week, including a three-game sweep of Mars Hill. He batted. .375 for the week with three home runs, a triple, 11 RBIs, and six runs scored. He had a .455 onb-base percentage and a 1.063 slugging percentage for the week.

Blackwell, a freshman left-handed pitcher from Blythewood, S.C., had a big week on the mound for the Cobras going 1-0 with two saves. He picked up the win for Coker against No. 5 UNC Pembroke in a non-conference game throwing four innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts. He then picked up two saves for Coker against Wingate, allowing the Cobras to win the SAC series 2-1. He went four innings allowing no runs on one hit with three strikeouts in game one of the series and threw two shutout innings allowing one hit in game three. For the week Blackwell threw 10 innings allowing two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.
