Newberry's Ford and Catawba's Stolsworth Named South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Donovan Ford was named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Baseball Player of the Week, while Catawba's Payne Stolsworth was named WePlayed Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week ten of the 2024 season, the Conference office announced today.

Ford, a junior outfielder from Greenville, S.C., is currently on an 18-game hitting streak and went 11-14 in the past four games. In the doubleheader sweep against LR to clinch the series win, Ford went 7-for-7 in the leadoff spot with an RBI in each game. Ford is currently second in the conference with a .424 batting average and 22 stolen bases so far this season.

Stolsworth, a graduate pitcher from Salisbury, N.C., tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout in #21 Catawba's 11-0 win over Mars Hill on Saturday, part of the series sweep and a 4-0 week for the Catawba Indians. Stolsworth allowed just two hits and one walk over seven innings, while striking out a career-high and Catawba season-high 11 batters. He also recorded a blank frame of relief in Catawba's midweek win over USC Aiken and his eight wins on the season are tied for most in the SAC this season.
