Wingate’s Brewer Earns National Football Honors from Don Hansen

Westmont, Ill.----Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette has honored junior punter/place kicker Chris Brewer (Weddington, N.C./Sun Valley HS) as this week's NCAA Division II special teams "player of the week." Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette has recognized Brewer six times this season. Earlier this week, Brewer earned D2Football.com special teams "player of the week" for the first time this year.

Chris Brewer averaged 45.1 yards per punt on nine punts and scored seven points Saturday afternoon as Wingate dropped a 59-31 decision to NCAA Division II number eight Carson-Newman College at Wingate.

On a windy day, Brewer had a long punt of 57 yards, in addition to three punts inside the 20. Brewer leads the South Atlantic Conference in punting average (42.3 yards per punt). In addition, he tops the SAC charts with 27 punts inside the 20. Brewer set a South Atlantic Conference record with an 89-yard punt earlier this season against Lenoir-Rhyne College.

As a place kicker, Brewer leads the SAC in total field goals with 10. He is second in the league in kick scoring with 62 points. Brewer made 10-of-13 field goals this season and 32-of-33 extra points.

On kick-off duties, Brewer recorded two touchbacks against Carson-Newman. He has 28 touchbacks (out of 56 kick-offs) this season. In other words, 50 percent of his 2003 kick-offs have been touchbacks. Brewer has garnered SAC POTW honors four times this season.
