Six from SAC Named D2Football.com All-Americans
LIBERTY, Mo. --- Six players from the South Atlantic Conference have been named to the 2003 D2Football.com Preseason All-American Team, it was announced today.
Carson-Newman College, Catawba College and Tusculum College each placed two players on the squad.
Tusculum's Alan Dunn, a senior offensive lineman from Chattanooga, Tenn., was named to the First Team, while Donald Amaker, a Bluefield, W.Va. senior, was tabbed as the Second Team return specialist.
Along with Dunn and Amaker, Carson-Newman offensive lineman Bakari Wilkerson and defensive lineman Clarence Glymph were selected as well as Catawba offensive lineman David Lynch and defensive back Jamel Jackson.
This marks the third preseason All-American accolade this year for Dunn who was tabbed to the D2Football.com All-American Second Team last season. The 6-7, 315-pound tackle was named to Lindy's Preseason All-America First Team this year as well as the Preseason Football Gazette All-America squad.
In 2002, Dunn earned All-American status from the Football Gazette and the Associated Press. Last year, he was also Tusculum's first recipient of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy which is awarded to the best offensive lineman or blocking back in the South Atlantic Conference. Dunn is a two-time All-Conference honoree and was a First Team Preseason All-SAC choice this year.
For Amaker, this marks the third consecutive year he has been named to the D2Football.com preseason All-American team. The two-time All-American enters his final TC campaign as one of the best return threats in the country. The 5-9, 195-pounder led the league for a second straight year in punt returns averaging a TC single-season record 17.1 yards per return, which was also second best in the nation. Amaker also finished 18th in NCAA Division II kickoff return average with 25.9 yards per return. He is a two-time All-Conference First Team choice and is a 2003 Preseason All-America pick by the Football Gazette.
