Carson-Newman’s Good, Tusculum’s Littlejohn, Gregory Named Football Players Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The South Atlantic Conference announces its football Players of the Week for the week ending November 3, 2007. Tusculum College claims two of the three awards this week. The Pioneers outlasted Mars Hill College 15-12 at Greeneville, Tenn. Saturday.

Tusculum's winners are junior linebacker Jarvis Littlejohn (Gaffney, S.C.) and sophomore punter John Gregory (Oeltewah, Tenn.). The SAC Defensive Player of the Week, Littlejohn gains SAC Player of the Week laurels for the first time in his career. Gregory earns SAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the fourth time this season and the seventh time in his Pioneer career.

Carson-Newman College sophomore quarterback Alex Good (Greensboro, N.C.) helps avoid a clean sweep for Tusculum, as he earns Offensive Player of the Week laurels for the third time this season.

Alex Good completed 12-of-20 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns as the number 12 Eagles defeated Wingate University 58-27 Saturday. The Southern Guilford High School graduate also rushed for one score.

Thanks to his leadership, Good helped Carson-Newman compile 586 yards total offense (325 yards rushing and 261 yards passing) Saturday. The Eagles entered Saturday's contest as the top scoring team in NCAA Division II, averaging 46.2 points per game.

On the season, the 6-0, 180-pound signal-caller has completed 53 percent of his passes for 1,103 yards. Carson-Newman concludes the 2007 regular season Saturday, hosting local rival Tusculum.

Jarvis Littlejohn recorded a career-high 17 tackles in the Pioneers' 15-12 win over Mars Hill. A 5-11, 235-pound native of Gaffney, S.C., Littlejohn tied a school single-game record with five tackles for loss (18 yards). His five tackles for loss included one quarterback sack.

Littlejohn also recovered a fourth-quarter fumble, setting up Tusculum's winning touchdown with eight minutes remaining in the game. The 17 tackles by the Gaffney High School graduate are the fifth-most ever posted by a Pioneer.

John Gregory averaged 42.4 yards on five punts in Tusculum's 15-12 win over Mars Hill. A 6-2, 220-pound native of Ooltewah, Tenn., Gregory booted three punts inside the 20-yard line. He also totaled a pair of 50-yard punts in the victory.

A preseason All-American, Gregory is averaging 41.2 yards per punt this season. Gregory leads the SAC in punting average. In addition, his 76-yard punt against Lenoir-Rhyne (Oct. 6) is the longest boot in the league this year. The Ooltewah High School graduate was an All-SAC first team selection in 2006.
