Carson-Newman’s Wakefield, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Shuford, Wingate’s Seidof Named Football Players Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- - The South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week have been announced for the week ending November 8, 2009. Carson-Newman College running back Buck Wakefield was named Offensive Player of the Week, Lenoir-Rhyne University defensive back Marcus Shuford was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Wingate University kickoff specialist and return specialist Bobby Seidof was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Wakefield, a senior from Drummonds, Tenn. (Munford HS) set the Carson-Newman single-game rushing record for the second-straight week, rushing for 333 yards on 31 carries as the Eagles beat Tusculum, 70-35, to finish the year a perfect 7-0 in South Atlantic Conference play.

He also set a C-N school record with five rushing touchdowns in the game. He had touchdowns runs of 4, 8, 15, 33, and 38 yards. He earns the Player of the Week award for the second week in a row. Wakefield was one of the main the catalysts in the Eagles amassing a school-record 803 yards of total offense and 677 yards rushing, both are new C-N records. The first-team All-SAC selection had runs touchdown runs of 68 and 64 yards as C-N racked up 496 yards, including 317 in the first half, on the ground. He also caught two passes for 36 yards. For the year, Wakefield is averaging 139.6 yards per game. The Eagles are 8-0 since his return to the lineup after an early-season injury.

Shuford, a junior from Newton, N.C. (Newton-Conover HS) led Lenoir-Rhyne with seven tackles and two pass break-ups to go along with a key fourth quarter interception in Lenoir-Rhyne's 16-13 season finale win at Catawba on Saturday. Shuford and the Bears' defense also limited the Indians to minus three yards rushing in the contest. Shuford finishes 2009 as Lenoir-Rhyne's team leader in tackles with 76.

Seidof, a sophomore from Sarasota, Fla. (Cardinal Mooney HS) handled the Bulldog kick-off duties Saturday as Wingate topped Mars Hill 56-35. Wingate won the field position battle by six yards. Seidof also had two kick-off returns for 60 yards and three special teams tackles.
