Game Notes: Brevard lost to Lenoir-Rhyne last week, as the Tornados were held to a season-low 48 yards of total offense. Brevard's defense and special teams put points on the board early for the Tornados in the game as Chris Spencer blocked a punt out of the back of the end zone for a safety, while Prince Simunyu returned an L-R fumble 37 yards for a touchdown. Wingate scored the first 20 points of the game against Tusculum College last week, as running back Nelson Woods and placekicker RP Lopez both set school and personal records for the Bulldogs in their 33-27 victory. Woods rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown in the game, while Lopez scored 15 points on four field goals and three extra points for Wingate. Brevard comes into the game this weekend, possessing the fourth-best rushing attack in the NCAA, averaging 279.7 yards per game on the ground, led by freshman slot Kelvin Jeter. Jeter has accumulated 687 yards on the ground this season, sitting third in the SAC with 98.1 rushing yards per game and averaging 8.9 yards per carry. Cody Haffly leads the Wingate passing attack on the season, averaging over 300 yards per game through the air with his favorite target on the season being Perry Floyd and Dedric Ellington. Floyd is averaging 110 yards per game through the air after six games, having caught 42 passes for 660 yards and six touchdowns on the season, while Ellington has caught 36 passes for 423 yards and three scores in averaging 70.5 yards per contest.

Game Notes: Lenoir-Rhyne is coming off its first conference victory, a 24-8 victory over Brevard last week. Tusculum is still searching for its first conference win. The Pioneers have won the last two games at Moretz Stadium. Lenoir-Rhyne leads NCAA Division II in rushing (305.7 ypg) while Tusculum is first nationally in passing (417.0 ypg). L-R is still searching for its first South Atlantic Conference home win since 2006, a 31-7 victory over Mars Hill on October 28, 2006. The Bears have lost 12 straight league contests at Moretz Stadium. Lenoir-Rhyne also leads the conference in total defense (250.3 ypg), scoring defense (19.1 ppg), rushing defense (93.6 ypg), pass efficiency defense (98.8) and time of possession (33:41). L-R quarterback Major Herron leads the league in touchdowns scored (11) and total scoring (9.4 ppg). L-R has held its last five opponents under 300 yards of offense (a 227.2-yard average during that span). Tusculum and Lenoir-Rhyne are tied for the SAC lead in sacks with 22. Tusculum's Bo Cordell leads the nation (all NCAA divisions) in passing (417.0 ypg), total offense (412.6 ypg) and completions per game (32.56 cpg). Cordell is second all-time at Tusculum with 6,377 passing yards, which are also already 10th all-time in South Atlantic Conference history.

Game Notes: Both Catawba and Newberry suffered their first conference loss last week. Catawba fell to Carson-Newman 42-16, while Newberry dropped a 48-36 decision to Mars Hill. Newberry has won
four of the last five games against Catawba. Catawba's last win at Setzler Field was a 41-31 victory in 2004. Newberry has won both games on the turf at Setzler Field. Catawba quarterback Patrick Dennis ranks fifth in the SAC in total offense, averaging 213.3 yards per game and has accounted for 11 touchdowns this season. He leads the SAC with a 65.3 completion percentage. Catawba averages 83.2 yards per game on the ground. Junior running back Josh Wright ran for a career-high 105 yards last week, eclipsing the 100-yard mark for the second straight week. Brandon Bunn is the Catawba's leading receiver with 25 catches for 452 yards and six touchdowns. He also averages 15.4 yards per punt return, which leads the SAC and is 12th nationally. Newberry quarterback Bryan Ehrlich completed 17-of-36 passes for 400 yards and three touchdowns last week against Mars Hill, but also threw two interceptions the Lions converted into touchdowns. He now has 1,852 passing yards this season to go with 23 touchdown passes, completing 122-of-209 passes. He currently ranks eighth in school history in single season yardage, 10th in single season completions and third in touchdown passes with a minimum of four games to play this season. He is also already tied for fifth in career touchdown passes at Newberry.
