ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The South Atlantic Conference Football
Players of the Week have been announced for the week ending
November 14, 2010. Carson-Newman College quarterback Doug Belk was
named Offensive Player of the Week, while Brevard College safety
Michael Gist was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Brevard
punter Eric Watts was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

SAC Offensive Player Of The Week
Doug Belk, Carson-Newman College
Sr., QB, Valdosta, Ga. (Lowndes County)
Senior quarterback Doug Belk guided the Eagles to a thrilling
49-48 victory over Tusculum to close out their season. Belk rushed
for a career-high 208 yards and scored the game-winning two-point
conversion with 35 seconds left in the contest. Belk, who averaged
nine yards per carry, accounted for 38 of C-N's 77 rushing yards on
the Eagles' game-winning drive. He also completed one pass on the
afternoon, which was a 32-yard touchdown.

SAC Defensive Player Of The Week
Michael Gist, Brevard College

Michael Gist had a hand in two turnovers, including the
game-ending interception on a Mars Hill pass attempt into the end
zone as the Tornados recorded their first SAC victory of the 2010
season. The interception was the Preseason First Team All-SAC
selection's first of the season and he added a fumble recovery,
which stalled a Mars Hill drive in the second quarter of the game.
The junior safety captained the Brevard College defense to forcing
five Lions turnovers in the contest on their way to their first
victory over Mars Hill in modern program history. In addition to
his interception and fumble recovery, Gist also had six tackles
(four solo, two assists).

SAC Special Teams Player Of The Week
Eric Watts, Brevard College
Jr., P, Powhatan, Va. (Old Dominion University)
Eric Watts punted the ball five times for 242 yards, with four
of his kicks traveling over 50 yards in successfully pinning the
Lions twice inside their 20-yard line, in averaging 48.4 yards per
punt attempt in the contest. Watts opened the game with a 56-yard
punt in the first quarter, and then added three consecutive 51 yard
punts, consistently pinning the Lions on their side of the field.
Watts' final punt was from the Mars Hill 44 yard line and the
junior punter downed the ball at the Mars Hill 11 yard line, which
indirectly led to the Tornados final touchdown of the game six
plays later. In addition to his punting duties, Watts also started
at wide receiver, catching one pass for nine yards in the game.
Watts came into the game as the SAC leader, averaging 42.2 yards
per punt and was 12th overall in the NCAA in punt average.
