The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Football Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Football Players of the Week for games played during the fourth week of the 2021 season. UVA Wise running back Jaevon Gillespie was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne defensive tackle Dan Louba was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Newberry punter Gibson Marsh picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Gillespie, a freshman from Greeneville, Tenn., led the Cavaliers to a dominating 33-7 win over Carson-Newman last week. He rushed for a career-high 166 yards on 18 carries with four touchdowns. Included in his carries was an 80-yard scramble for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Louba, a senior from Harrisburg, N.C., led the No. 17 Bears to a 31-16 win over Mars Hill last week. He tied a Lenoir-Rhyne record with four sacks, including three in the first half of action. He also knocked down two passes, recovered a fumble, and had six tackles. He finished the game with 3.5 tackles for a loss of 21 yards.
Marsh, junior from Mount Pleasant, S.C., led the Wolves to a 24-19 win over Tusculum. He had eight total punts in the game for 317 yards. Four of those punts were inside the 20-yard line, including two inside the 10-yard line. One of his punts also forced a fumble by the Pioneers and set up the game-winning drive for Newberry.
