The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Football Players of the Week for games played during the eighth week of the 2021 season.  Lenoir-Rhyne running back Dwayne McGee was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Wingate linebacker Jaquan Edwards was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Wingate kicker McLean Robertson picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

McGee, a freshman from Kissimmee, Fla., led the Bears to a 45-3 win over Limestone. He rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns. This is McGee's seventh consecutive game with 100-plus rushing yards, which tie is tied for third at Lenoir-Rhyne for a single season.  

Edwards, a junior from Johnston, S.C., anchored a Bulldog defense that held UVA Wise to negative 12-yards rushing as No. 18 Wingate rolled to a 48-21 win. He piled up 10 tackles on day, adding an interception, a pass breakup, and 0.5 tackles for loss.

Robertson, a graduate student from Lexington, S.C., had a perfect day kicking as he helped lead No. 18 Wingate to a 48-21 win over UVA Wise. He was a perfect two-for-two on field goals, nailing kicks from 39 and 44 yards. He also was five-for-five on extra points. He finished the day accounting for 11 of Wingate's points.
