The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Football Players of the Week for games played during the tenth week of the 2021 season.  Carson-Newman running back Troy Dendy was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while UVA Wise defensive lineman Chavon Fields was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Lenoir-Rhyne return man Deondre Lester picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors. 

Dendy, a junior from Laurens, S.C., rushed 262 yards, averaging 12.5 yards per carry with two touchdowns in the Eagles' 27-21 win over Limestone last week. This is the second 200-plus yard rushing game for Dendy during his career and is the fifth highest single-game rushing total in Carson-Newman history, while also being the eighth highest rushing total in NCAA Division II this season.

Fields, a junior from Richmond, Va., led the Highland Cavaliers to a 30-7 win over Catawba last week. He anchored a defense that allowed just 40 yards of total offense, a new single-game UVA Wise record. He finished the game with five solo tackles, three sacks, four tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. 

Lester, a sophomore from Washington, Ga., had four kick returns for 121 yards, including a season-long 51-yard return in the Bears' 56-20 win over Barton. Lester averaged 30.3 yards per return and added four catches and a touchdown to his efforts in the game.
