The South Atlantic Conference Announces Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Football Players of the Week for games played during the seventh week of the 2022 season.  Newberry running back Mario Anderson was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Wingate linebacker Davon Gilmore was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Carson-Newman linebacker Trayzel Jureidini-Wyche picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors. 

Anderson, a sophomore from Summerville, S.C., almost single-handedly led the Wolves to a 34-27 win over SAC foe Catawba last week. He rushed for 246 yards on 25 carries, averaging 9.8 yards per carry and he scored four touchdowns in the win. A career-high game in both rushing yards and touchdowns for Anderson, his performance was the third highest single game rushing total in Newberry history. 

Gilmore, a sophomore from North Charleston, S.C., had a monster day for the Bulldogs in their 28-21 come-from-behind overtime win over Limestone. He had a team high 12 tackles, including eight solo tackles, four tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.

Jureidini-Wyche, a senior from Douglasville, Ga., led the Eagles to a 37-0 SAC win over Erskine last week. He became just the second player in program history to block two kicks in one game. In addition to two blocked kicks, he had a tackle and a sack in the win.
