The South Atlantic Conference Announces Football Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Football Players of the Week for games played during the eighth week of the 2022 season.  Newberry running back Mario Anderson was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Tusculum Linebacker Wesley Scott was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Limestone return man Jelani Baker picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Anderson, a sophomore from Summerville, S.C., rushed for 243 yards with two touchdowns, averaging 10.1 yards per carry in the No. 16 Wolves' 38-24 win over No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne. Anderson now leads the SAC in yards/game and overall yardage.

Scott, a sophomore from Hobe Sound, Fla., posted a team-high nine tackles and returned an interception 35-yards for a touchdown in the Pioneers' 35-9 win over Emory & Henry. Scott finished the game with five solo tackles, and he anchored a Pioneer defense that allowed less than 10 points for the third consecutive game.

Baker, a junior from Snellville, Ga., helped lead the Saints to a 48-23 win over Catawba. He had kickoff returns of 95 and 64 yards, with his 95-yard return going for a touchdown. Baker's touchdown return was the first kickoff returned for a touchdown in Limestone history. He finished the game with 159 return yards.
