Wingate’s Barnette Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Wingate University's Sean Barnette was named South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Barnette, a junior guard from Rock Hill, S.C., averaged 22.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the week in leading Wingate to three wins in three contests.
Barnette started the week off with 18 points in Wingate's 83-61
win over Anderson Tuesday night before posting a double-double (22
points and 10 rebounds) Friday in the Bulldogs' 82-76 victory
against Seton Hill (Pennsylvania).
The Northwestern High School graduate finished the week off with a 27-point, seven-rebound performance against region-foe USC Upstate Saturday night as the Bulldogs prevailed by a 90-69 score.
Barnette, who passed the 1,000-point plateau this week and was named MVP of the Ortho Carolina Classic, has led Wingate to a 5-1 overall mark and a current four-game winning streak.
The SAC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week is voted on by the league's sports information directors.
